Freehold) New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere announced that the reconstruction of the Route 9 Bridge over County Route 522 (Freehold-Englishtown Road) in Freehold Township, Monmouth County will begin this month. Motorists traveling from Route 9 onto County Route 522 will need to use the following detour (pdf 46kb) during the reconstruction of the interchange:

  • Route 9 Northbound traffic will be detoured to County Route 522 via West Main Street.

  • Route 9 Southbound traffic will be detoured to County Route 522 via the Route 33 / Park Avenue exit to West Main Street.

  • Through traffic on Route 9 will NOT be detoured and through traffic on County Route 522 will NOT be detoured, only traffic getting off Route 9 onto County Route 522 will be detoured

  • The detour will go into effect on or about August 15, 2004 and will be in effect until approximately April 2006.

The construction project includes replacing the existing Route 9 Bridge over County Route 522 with a new, wider bridge and improving Route 9, County Route 522 and the ramps in the vicinity of the bridge.

During construction, two lanes of Route 9 traffic will be open in each direction, however, one lane may be temporarily shut down periodically during night-time hours. County Route 522 will have one lane open in each direction, however, one lane may be closed down for 15 minute intervals during night-time hours, at which time traffic would be alternated from each direction on County Route 522.   Access from County Route 522 to Route 9 Northbound and Route 9 Southbound will remain open at all times.
